Beer consumption has fallen to its lowest level in 60 years, with the average Aussie downing 4.49 litres in the last financial year.
It's a big drop from the heady days of 1979, when Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show consumption of the amber ale peaked at 6.4 litres per person.
Our dwindling love affair with the brew with has been linked to tough drink-driving laws.
And we are increasingly choosing to tipple on boutique brews rather than slamming back a carton of piss.
But Aussies aren't necessarily waking up with clearer heads in 2010 - wine consumption is at historically high levels.
