A free petrol giveaway in Sydney's inner west caused congestion on a main road as motorists took advantage of the ethanol promotion campaign.
Woolworths Petrol on Parramatta Road, Burwood, gave away the fuel as part of a campaign to educate drivers about E10 on Tuesday morning.
Sales manager Vivian Dance, who took advantage of the offer, said she first thought the zero dollars on the fuel board was a mistake.
"I think it's fantastic that they are giving it away for nothing," Ms Dance said.
Ms Dance said she had recently started filling up her Mercedes with the E10 petrol after learning of its benefits.
"My husband said, `start using E10 because they did a survey on petrol and the car performed exactly the same'," she said.
However, the giveaway caused some congestion westbound on the already busy road.
Acting Premier Andrew Stoner said ethanol blended fuel was the best choice.
"E10 can decrease fuel prices for motorists, cut harmful emissions and reduce reliance on imported petroleum products," he said.
Woolworths is rolling out the education campaign at petrol stations across the state.
