"Reach for the stars everyone. dogspeed cadre. c out."

And with that tweet posted around midnight on Friday, Charlie Sheen quit Twitter, leaving behind nearly eight million followers, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The brief message captioned a photo posted on twitpic that was shot out the front window of an airplane with what looks to be a bottle of Tabasco sauce on the dashboard.

"Sorry, that page doesn't exist!" appears on the front page of Sheen's official Twitter account @charliesheen.

According to TMZ, the Anger Management star pulled the plug on the popular microblogging site because he "feels like he's not getting anything out of the social network".

While it’s bad news for Sheen fans, it’s probably good news for any other total bitchin rock stars from Mars who are hoping to pick up new followers.

Sheen joined Twitter in March 2011 - around the time he lost his Two and a Half Men gig - and had almost a million followers after the first day of blogging, the LA Times said.

According to TMZ, Sheen thanked his fans for their support and asked them to "follow" him to his next endeavour. "It's gonna be epic," he was quoted as saying.

His departure from Twitter comes as the ratings for his new comedy series Anger Management fall sharply. Viewership for Thursday's episode in the US on the FX Network slumped to 2.4 million viewers from 3.4 million last week, The Hollywood Reporter said.
