Can you imagine a world without your favourite electronic gadget, or any electricity at all?

Scientists say a massive sun storm could be on its way, one so powerful it has the potential to annihilate the world’s power grid.

These solar storms occur every 11 years, but NASA has warned a particularly violent 'geomagnetic storm' could be brewing, the likes of which hasn’t been seen 1921.

Back then, the storms caused global chaos by destroying telegraph wires, but today, in a world heavily reliant on electricity, the National Academy of Sciences predicts a similar storm could cause “One to two trillion dollars in damages to society’s high-tech infrastructure and require four to 10 years for complete recovery”.

There’s uncertainty about when the sun storm will hit, with NASA saying it could be “100 years away, or just 100 days”.
