The Ben Cousins documentary continues to fuel debate, with critics saying it didn’t do enough to deter drug use, while supporters claim it was an honest and revealing account of addiction.

But one thing is clear from the doco - the devastating impact drug abuse has on an addict’s family.

The program revealed the extraordinary lengths Ben’s father Bryan went to support his son.

At one point, when Bryan realised he couldn’t stop his son from leaving the house to buy drugs, he offered to drive with him, at 4 o’clock in the morning, to Ben’s dealer.

"I knew we were dealing with a potentially life and death situation.” Bryan said. “I thought, if I get this wrong, we could lose him."
