Boxer Paul Briggs came out of retirement for the IBO cruiserweight world title fight in Perth last night, only to go down in less than 30 seconds, leaving Danny Green with the title.

Shortly after the opening bell, Green delivered a left jab to Briggs’s head, causing him to stumble a few steps and drop to the ground, unable to continue.

An irate Green told the crowd "just chill out, no one's as pissed off as me, believe me”. He added Briggs was “not even a canine… My chihuahua Rocky has got bigger balls than him.”

But online bookmakers say the fight has given boxing’s credibility a big hit. Ryan Kay from Betezy said he was suspicious pre-fight. “I made a few calls to a few people yesterday to say is this fight fair dinkum and I was told it was. It smelt anyway," he said.

Neil Evans, from online bookmakers Centrebet, said "It puts the credibility of boxing in this country back in the gutter."

Police in Perth were forced to escort both Briggs and Green out of the stadium. Inspector Jeff Ellis said the crowd became agitated because they “paid a lot of money to go and see this fight, and certainly were disappointed that the fight didn't go on longer."

Green was also left fuming at the weigh-in, the night before, when Briggs tipped the scales at 87.2kg, more than 3kg above the 84kg limit agreed to in the lead-up to the title bout.
