Police have accused 30-year-old Conor David Purcell of inciting unrest on two occasions when he took to the stage of the Red Shirt's fortified protest camp.
In one of his impassioned speeches, which can be seen on YouTube, he encourages thousands of protestors to keep up their pressure on the government.
"[You] have the right to democratic elections now!" he said, before receiving a loud applause.
"No government that does not come from the people via a democratic election can bring stability, peace and progress to the people."
Purcell is reported to have been a military sniper as well as being a political science graduate.
