Police believe the murderer used a fake profile and the promise of a job working with animals to lure 18-year-old Nona Belomesoff into a deadly face-to-face meeting on Wednesday.

Her body was found two days later in a creek bed on the outskirts of the city.

Her death has prompted a warning from Queensland Police about letting strangers access your personal data.

"I don't think kids need to have a profile photograph on the internet," Det Supt Peter Crawford told The Courier-Mail.

"If you use social networking as a closed network of friends that you know and only share photos and information among that small close-knit group, then the risks are very much reduced."

Meanwhile, a campaign is underway to get users of the site to close down their account by the end of the month unless Facebook simplifies its privacy settings.
