A Melbourne local council ordered the school to lower the volume of the backing track for the anthem following the complaint, much to the bemusement of teachers, students and parents alike.
"I said to the students and parents [at assembly], 'I'm sorry if you can't hear that, but we have had a complaint that this is too loud'," principal Margaret Staley told the Herald Sun.
"I said it would be disappointing because we have our Anzac Day service here this week."
Education Minister Bronwyn Pike also chimed in against the complaint.
"Every student should be given the opportunity to sing the national anthem with pride," she offered.
The school plays the anthem every Monday morning during the 9am assembly.
