Lobby group Kids Free 2B Kids says children shouldn't be exposed to magazines such as Playboy, Penthouse, Zoo and Ralph in newsagents, corner stores and service station.

It claims these magazines are becoming more and more explicit, and says casual exposure to them is contributing to the sexualisation of children.

The group has written to government asking for these magazines with the Restricted classification to only be available in adult shops and for so-call lads' mags to not be displayed where children can see them.

"This is not a denial of anyone's liberties, this is actually saying if we value children we will listen to the research," Reverend Tim Costello, a signatory to the letter, told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"They [should not be] prominently displayed where kids reach out for their Violet Crumble bar."
