A handful of schools across the state are incorporating Wii units into their physical education classes for kids to play games like tennis, boxing and touch football.

While many oppose the trials, Mosman High principal Gail Dyer defended the use of video game technology.

"Those games are fabulous programs for supplementing classroom teaching," Dyer told The Daily Telegraph.

"We don't have a tennis court and this was as effective as having kids out (playing) on one.

"Many of the kids live in apartments, so a lot of them don't get out to play sports."
