The boat, carrying 64 Kurdish asylum seekers and three crew, arrived at Christmas Island on Wednesday night.

Someone on board used global roaming to dial 000 and was connected to WA police.

Police notified the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and the boat was picked up by HMAS Broome.

It is the second asylum seeker boat this week to phone authorities upon arrival.

The latest arrival has prompted the opposition to claim border protection workers are being used as a taxi service.

The boat is 101st to arrive in Australian waters since the Rudd Government came into power in 2007.
