Williams recently spent some time here, and was going over the trip on David Letterman's Late Show this week when he made the comments.
"You go into a club and get heckled in Australia.
"It's kind of mandatory: 'Get on with it!'.
"And that was just the prime minister."
Our football codes also copped a ribbing, with rugby described as a game where "you bury your head in another man's arse" and the indigenous code as "rugby in a thong".
And he said our unique native wildlife looked like it was created when there "was an open bar in heaven" and all that was left to use was spare parts.
But the Academy Award winning actor also described Australians as "lovely" and "really sweet" with a "rough and tumble" attitude to life.
That wasn't enough to win over Kevin Rudd though.
"I think Robin Williams should go and spend a little time in [his home state of] Alabama before he frames comments about people being particularly redneck," he told Eddie McGuire on Triple M this morning.
