Tensions are simmering between returned servicemen, their descendents and the group representing them.
Organisers of Brisbane's Anzac Day parade have announced that family members will be made to march at the back this year.
The move is made to keep the old diggers from being out in the heat for too long, but has angered some servicemen who like to march with their grandchildren.
While the RSL in New South Wales has not taken the same position, its president has issued descendants with an ultimatum.
"If you don't realise what it's about then don't bother turning up - simple as that," Don Rowe told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"Some people come with dirty joggers, an old pair of jeans, T-shirts with something written on it and their hands in their pockets."
