Today's papers are full of rumours that Clarke is on the brink of breaking off his engagement with the 22-year-old model.

Bingle is said to be having "a rough time" since Woman's Day last week published a nude photo of her in the shower allegedly taken by AFL star Brendan Fevola.

The stack of cash she received for a subsequent interview appears to have done little to ease the strain.

Yesterday, she gave waiting reporters the middle finger from the balcony of the $6 million Bondi home she shares with the national vice-captain.

The couple had a highly publicised argument at the SCG last month.

Last year, Clarke was involved in a dressing room scuffle at the same ground with Simon Katich after an argument about Bingle.

"[The] nude photo scandal is understood to be the last straw [for Clarke] and Bingle's decision to sell her side of the story to Woman's Day for $200,000 is believed to have tipped Clarke over the edge," reports the Daily Telegraph.

While Ricky Ponting says his deputy has the full support of teammates, the media isn't showing the same sympathies.

"Lara Bingle is fast becoming the Yoko Ono of Australian cricket," writes Drew Warne-Smith in today's Australian.

It is believed Clarke will return to the New Zealand for next week's first test.
